Last Surf
Last Surf - I was enjoying a beautiful day on Ft Lauderdale Beach. The sun was getting ready to set and we were about to leave shortly. When the sun sets it creates these very dramatic shadows. I noticed the shadow of this man getting ready for what appeared his last surf of the day. Most beach shots are color but there was so much detail in the surf, sand and sky that the B&W brings it out very well.
Blue Tahitian Rainbow
Blue Tahitian Rainbow - My biggest passion outside of traveling and photography is scuba diving. This photo was taken on our honeymoon in Tahiti. We were on a dive boat getting ready to go snorkeling in the stunning waters of Bora Bora. Where I was amazed by the distinct variations of blue surrounding our boat. I absolutely could not believe what I was seeing represented in the ocean. There was a "rainbow of blue", dozens of shades. I had never seen anything like this before. Once the boat slowed down, I quickly grabbed my camera, composed the shot and here is that image. I dedicate this image to all my dive buddies out there (including my wife), who I have shared many hours above and below the water.. Plenty of sun, sea, rum and fun. What happens on dive trips, stays on dive trips...
Paris After Dark
Paris After Dark - The "City of Lights" is absolutely my favorite city in the world. C'est bon. I have visited there many times and never tire of walking those streets. I love to walk around in the evening after a rain. With the lights, the reflections, the smells, the sounds, the bread, and the wine. I love art and museums, Paris has some of the best. I love to speak as much French as possible and try to blend in as much as possible. I hate running into "Ugly" Americans, they disgust me. The French do what they do well and they do great chilling... I like chilliin. This particular evening we were walking around after dinner and I came around this corner and standing in the background was this incredible image that represented everything I love about Paris after dark. I did not have a travel tripod in those days, so I improvised with my camera on a mailbox, resting the camera on my scarf for stability. I composed the shot and got it. This is dedicated to my wife and all the fun we have had on our many trips there. C'est la vie!
The Flamenco Dancer
The Flamenco Dancer - This is one of the first images I ever sold. To a very good friend, who had a wonderful and emotional story behind it. She purchased it for her mother and upon presenting it to her mother, the mother cried. It brought back sentimental memories of her early days living in Spain. This was shot in Barcelona and the dancer and her accompanist were mesmerizing. The B&W bring out the passion in her face and I can still her the rhythms of her feet and the strumming of the guitar.
Morning in Istanbul
Morning in Istanbul - Upon awakening on my first morning in Istanbul Turkey. I first heard the Islamic call to prayer and got out of bed and pulled the curtain open. The colors and the view of the Bosphorus was incredible at sunrise. Over the course of my trip I noticed a woman who did her laundry daily and hung it to dry on her clothes line. It reminded me of my youth when our clothes where hung out to dry like that. I always loved the smell of the sheets and towels after they hung on the line to dry.
The Fishing Pier
The Fishing Pier - This pier is a short drive form our home in South Florida. We frequent the area often in the day for beach and in the evening for dinner. This was one of the first painting I did from a photograph I had taken. If you notice carefully there is a man sitting on a table near the base of the pier. This is a new medium for me that I am embracing. I love the texture and subtle colors that it provides to a simple night shot of a fishing pier while eating dinner.
The Life Guard Stand and the Ghost
The Life Guard Stand and the Ghost - On January 1st 2015, my friends and I wanted to catch the first sunrise of the new year. It was nasty and pouring rain, but we all went down to the beach anyway. As the sun was beginning to show signs of life bringing in the new year, I noticed this stark contrast of the lone Life Guard station. I framed it up the shot but this lady was in the way. She seemingly refused to move, I waited and waited. Finally I decided to shoot anyway I was losing the light. She slowly began to walk away, since it was a time exposure she ended up becoming a ghost and you can see her walking away down the Fort Lauderdale beach.
The Glistening
The Glistening - I am a sucker for great light. I am always looking for it. Walking to the back of this boat as we cruised up the Bosphorus in Turkey to the Black Sea, I noticed the reflection of the sun glistening on the water. I saw this sailboat moving closer to my line of sight. I waited until it was where I wanted it to be and took the shot. In the far background is the City of Istanbul basking in the rays of the sun.
Sea Gulls In Venice
Sea Gulls In Venice - This is a painting of a photograph I took in Venice, Italy. The fishing boats were retrung for the day and they fishermen were cleaning heir fish and throwing the entrails into the sea. The sea gulls know the routine and follow the boats for an easy meal. For all non-artists and painters Orange and Blue are opposites on the color wheel therefore they complement each other very well. I love the way these two dominant colors come together in this image. I LOVE ITALY.
Tango Dancer
The Tango Dancers - This is a painting of two tango dancer I photographed in Buenos Aries Argentina. I have always loved the Tango and found interesting its African roots and origin. It was dark in the room and had to use the table as a tripod. I decided to paint it because of the rich earth tones accented with the red table cloths along the wall.
The Wine Glass
I love to travel and occasionally enjoy good wine. A few years ago hanging out in Napa Valley while in San Francisco for a conference, a good friend took me to the Artesia Winery. The weather was California beautiful and the sun was setting. So I set my glass on this post, lined up the setting sun and took the shot. This shot is dedicated to all the fine wine lovers.
Black on Red
Black on Red - My daughter, a student at the University of Georgia was involved in the Pumoja Dance Group. She called me and asked me if I would be able to come up and see their performance. I told her that unfortunately, due to some conflicts with my schedule I would not be able to attend. Of course I lied. I was right there in the middle, in the front, tripod and all. It was earthy and sexy, and when combined with the red and black lighting I was able to capture the silhouette of the dancers. I decided to paint this because of the color and the contrast of the image . I like the combination of red and black.
Sunset From Galata Bridge
Sunset From Galata Bridge - This is shot from the Galata Bridge in Istanbul Turkey. The sun was rapidly going down and the final rays of the day shot up into the sky. I only had minutes to get this shot before it was gone, I did not care about the crowd of people so Incorporated them into the shot. Those two guys apologized for walking through my shot I told them they helped make it better.
Vineyard on the Hill
Vineyard on the Hill - This was shot in Napa at a winery called Artesia. The rolling hills fro my vantage point were incredible. The clouds were full of texture and I love that. The sun was setting and casting a beautiful glow over the green grass. I took the shot and then took another sip.
Bread and Water
Bread and Water - While eating dinner and very eager to get shooting on my first trip to Buenos Aries. I keep playing with my camera in this dark restaurant. I kept changing the exposure setting to see what worked best on the Bread and Water Glasses. I was so focused on my world I did not realize the couple at the next table were getting agitated because it appeared I was shooting them. They would not understand that at the aperture setting I was using they were purposely out of focus... I decided to pain this because it looked like something nice that would work in my dinning room or kitchen.
Beach Umbrella Man
Beach Umbrella Man - many people who frequent Doctors Cave Beach in Montego Bay know this man. The beach umbrella man. My wife grew up spending many days on this beach. When I showed this to her sister she said I know that guy. I painted it because of the tropical colors and the actual feel of being there eating lunch as I was doing when i shot this image.
White Clouds and the Sea
White Clouds and the Sea - This is all I need, whether I am well or sick. Put me in this place and all is good with the world. This was shot in St Martin on a very nice beach on the French side called Anse des Pères or Friars Bay . My good friends know every inch of this lovely island and they have shown me some incredible place to take shots while visiting.
